Notable apps and app updates for April 11, 2018

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

macOS Apps/Updates

Smile has released PDFpen and PDFpenPro 10.0, an update of its PDF editing tool for the Mac. It allows users to add signatures, text, and images, make changes and correct typos, OCR scanned docs, fill out forms, and more.

You can mark up documents with highlighting, underscoring and strikethrough. Version 10.0 introduces watermarks, headers & footers, and, for Pro users, batch Optical Character Recognition.

PDFpen and PDFpenPro 10.0 require macOS 10.12 or higher. PDFpen retails for $74.95, and PDFpenPro for $124.95. Family Pack licenses, which cover up to five computers in one household, are $94.95 for PDFpen and $149.95 for PDFpenPro. Office Pack licenses start at $224.95 for PDFpen (five users) and $349.95 for PDFpenPro (five users). Demos are available for download.

Digital Heaven has launched SpeedScriber 2.0 for macOS. It’s an automated transcription app designed for professional content creators.

Version 2.0 adds such new features as support for Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish languages. It also adds the ability to export to iTunes Timed Text for creation of captions with the latest version of Final Cut Pro X.

SpeedScriber requires macOS 10.11.5 or later. It’s available as a free download from the Mac App Store). A SpeedScriber account is required. Additional minutes can be purchased and the duration of each imported file is rounded up to the next whole minute then deducted from the account balance when submitted for transcription.
