No, I don’t think sales of the 15-inch MacBookAir are a disappointment

The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) doesn’t believe this, but a new DigiTimes report claims that sales of the 15-inch MacBook Air are disappointing.

Quoting unnamed sources within Apple’s supply chain, the article says the laptop hasn’t met customer demand expectations. DigiTimes adds that there are even calls for the supply chain to put shipments on hold.

In addition to outstanding reviews, there are reasons to doubt this report. For example, data from Canalys says that Apple achieved the highest growth among the major personal computer vendors in the second quarter of 2023, with shipments up 51% year on year.  The research group says that, among other factors, Mac sales were boosted by the launch of the new 15-inch MacBook Air.

The updated laptop sports a 15.3-inch Liquid Retina, the performance of the M2 processor, up to 18 hours of battery life, and a silent, fanless design. What’s more, with an all-new six-speaker sound system, the 15-inch MacBook Air delivers immersive Spatial Audio, along with a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, and MagSafe charging. The 15-inch MacBook Air with M2, available in midnight, starlight, silver, and space gray, starts at US$1,299 and $1,199 for education.
