Next-gen version of the iPad Pro in 2024 might get support for MagSafe charging

The next-generation version of the iPad Pro that’s set to come out in 2024 might include support for MagSafe charging, according to MacRumors.

The article adds that “while it’s not confirmed at this time, there have been past rumors pointing toward Apple’s work on wireless charging for the iPad.” The tech giant has been rumored for months to be considering a tablet with a glass back that would facilitate such features.

However, some pundits doubt this will happen. Why? A glass back would be easier to damage, making the tablet more fragile. However, having an aluminum back would make it difficult to make the device compatible with the MagSafe Charger.

The 2024 iPad Pro is also expected to get an OLED display. An iPad Pro with OLED display was, according to some rumors,  originally slated to launch in 2022. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says those plans were delayed because costs and performance weren’t meeting expectations in tests.

What’s more, in his latest “Power On” newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said the Pro version is getting revamped, and the Air will have the option of a larger screen. The iPad mini and entry-level model, meanwhile, are getting faster chips.

Speaking of the upcoming tablet upgrade, according to a tweet byX user Majin Bu, it’s possible that Apple is developing other devices with Dynamic Island Software such as an upcoming iPad.

“I have received information, as I have already said, regarding the new iPad, but I am not yet sure of the source, so I am waiting for further feedback,” he tweets.

So can we expect a 2024 iPad with a Dynamic Island? The Sellers Research Group thinks it’s possible.

According to Apple, the Dynamic Island features a design “that blends the line between hardware and software, adapting in real time to show important alerts, notifications, and activities.” With the introduction of the Dynamic Island, the TrueDepth camera has been redesigned to take up less of the display area.

Without impeding content on the screen, the Dynamic Island maintains an active state to allow users easier access to controls with a simple tap-and-hold, according to Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. Ongoing background activities like Maps, Music, or a timer remain visible and interactive, and third-party apps in iOS 16 that provide information like sports scores and ride-sharing with Live Activities can take advantage of the Dynamic Island.
