News round-up: remembering Steve Jobs, Safari security, more

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, we’ll frequently offer a wrap-up news items you should check out.

Today would have been the 65th birthday of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. CEO Tim Cook took to Twitter to remember his friend and mentor.

Last week, at the 49th CA/Browser Forum, a voluntary consortium of certification authorities, Apple announced that it’ll stop allowing HTTPS certificates on Safari with more than 13 months of validity, later this year, according to TNW.

Failure to reach a global deal on where and how much to tax digital giants such as Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook, etc. would result in many digital tax regimes emerging all over the world, France’s Finance Minister says.

Apple has signed a lease for 220,000 square feet of office space at 11 Penn Plaza near Madison Square Garden, The New York Post reports. The building sits on entire eastern blockfront along Seventh Avenue between West 31st and 32nd streets, cater-corner to Madison Square Garden.

Apple retail stores will promote International Women’s Day all month long with the “She Creates” series, according to 9to5Mac.

As of Monday, 29 of 42 Apple retail stores have re-opened in China, after being closed to due the Coronavirus, reports Bloomberg.

Apple has published two “white papers” detailing the tech in its Mac Pro (PDF link) and Pro Display XDR (PDF link).
