News round-up: Powerbeats pro available for pre-order (and more)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out.

Apple’s Powerbeats Pro are now available to pre-order from Apple.com and the Apple Store app in the U.S. and Canada. 

The Securities and Exchange Commission has charged a New Hampshire-based company and its former CEO with misleading investors about the company’s ability to supply “sapphire glass” for Apple’s iPhones. The company, GT Advanced Technologies Inc., also is found to have misclassified more than $300 million in debt to Apple that resulted from its repeated failures to meet performance milestones.  

Motherboard reports that a right to repair bill that would have forced manufacturers selling electronic devices and other consumer products in Ontario to provide consumers and small businesses with the tools and knowledge to repair brand-name gadgets is officially dead. The failed vote follows lobbying against the legislation from major tech companies including Apple, according to the bill’s sponsor.

Berkshire Hathaway is sticking with its sizable Apple stake, Warren Buffett said. “We haven’t changed our [Apple] holdings,” Buffett told CNBC’s Becky Quick on Thursday, on the eve of the kickoff of Berkshire Hathaway’s annual shareholder meeting in Omaha this weekend.

A man accidentally swallowed an Apple AirPod and it still worked after passing through his system, according to the Daily Mail.

The MacObserver notes that Apple executive Lisa Jackson tweeted her support for the U.S. remaining in the Paris accords aimed at tackling climate change.  It came as the House moved to prevent President Donald Trump exiting the agreement Thursday.)
