News round-up: lots of new developer betas, more

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, we’ll frequently offer a wrap-up of news items you should check out. First up: Apple has released the fourth developer betas of macOS Big Sur, iOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14, and watchOS 7.

MacRumors reports that Look Around, an Apple Maps feature introduced in iOS 13, has today rolled out in some cities in Japan, allowing for a close-up street-level view of various locations and landmarks. Look Around is available in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Nagoya.

On the new MacVoices, Mark Fuccio and host Chuck Joiner use the Apple quarterly earnings announcements as a springboard to discuss where Apple products stand in the time of COVID-19, and in the marketplace in general. From reliability to desirability, support expenses to the success of an Apple-related IPO, they dig in. (Part 1 of 2)

T-Mobile says it’s the first operator in the world to launch a commercial nationwide standalone 5G network. The “Un-carrier” is expanding 5G coverage by 30%, now covering nearly 250 million people in more than 7,500 cities and towns across 1.3 million square miles.

Logitech has announced Swytch, a $999 cable that allows you to connect a laptop to a room system’s AV equipment for use with any video meeting or webinar.

Whoo hoo! Google and Amazon have overtaken Apple as the most imitated brands for phishing as of quarter two, reports Check Point.
