News round-up: iFixIt tears down the new iPad mini and tells us what’s inside (and more)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out.

The gang at iFixIt, who tear apart electronic devices and look at their innards, have posted a teardown of the new iPad mini. They say that, despite appearances, the teardown confirms that this isn’t just a shrunken-down version of the new iPad Air—it’s a reworked iPad Mini 4, with some fresh silicon for 2019.

Apple has, at least for now, regained its spot as the U.S.’s most valuable company by market value, hitting a cap of $914.86 billion at close, per AppleInsider.

Apple is one of 13 inaugural corporate signatories to a state-led campaign that seeks to close the gender pay gap in California.

Apple has started manufacturing the iPhone 7 model in India, in addition to the iPhone SE and iPhone 6s, “thus widening its ‘Made in India’ portfolio and signalling its intention of developing the country as a manufacturing hub,” according to The Economic Times.

Streaming music, especially paid subscriptions, last year once again fueled the recording industry’s global growth, lifting worldwide revenue 9.7 percent to $19.1 billion in 2018, according to the music industry’s worldwide trade group Tuesday. That’s the fourth straight year of increase, notes CNET.
