News round-up: Apple’s ProRes RAW format gaining traction with developers (and more)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out.

Apple’s ProRes RAW format is gaining traction with third-party developers, reports MacWorld. Introduced last year, the new video format promises better performance and quality.

According to the Japanese blog Macotakara, two of this year’s iPhones will sport two triple-cameras, an OLED display, and USB-C.

Engadget claims that Huawei is now “open” to selling its 5G Balong 5000 modem chipsets, but only to one company: Apple. I’m skeptical.

According to DigiTimes, Apple manufacturer, TSMC, has announced delivery of the complete version of its 5nm design infrastructure within the Open Innovation Platform (OIP). This full release enables 5nm systems-on-chip (SoC) designs in next-generation advanced mobile and high-performance computing (HPC) applications, targeting high-growth 5G and artificial intelligence markets.

Internet sites could be fined or blocked if they fail to tackle “online harms” such as terrorist propaganda and child abuse, under government plans, reports BBC News. The UK’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has proposed an independent watchdog that will write a “code of practice” for tech companies.

There’s still disagreement among EU members over how to implement a so-called “GAFA tax” – named after Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon – to ensure the global internet giants pay a fair share of taxes on their massive business operations in Europe, but France has been driving hard for such a tax. However, at a meeting of EU finance meetings over the weekend, Sweden, Finland, Ireland and Denmark blocked a draft EU-wide GAFA tax proposal, reports Reuters.

Or they can be downloaded over-the-air once the proper configuration profile has been installed from the Developer Center. d
