News round-up: Apple, Qualcomm working hard one a 5G iPhone (and more)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, we’ll frequently offer a wrap-up of news items you should check out.

Apple and Qualcomm are working to launch a new 5G iPhone as fast as possible, Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon said at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Tech Summit this week, reports PCMag

According to Japanese news site Nikkei, Apple is planning to implement 5G technology in all of the iPhones coming in 2020, and Apple’s suppliers are gearing up for the transition.

Another report claims Apple is looking towards adding Mini LED to its iPad Pro lineup in 2020, with GIS working alongside Epistar, TSMT, and others said to be prepared to gain component orders and to become part of the model’s supply chain. 

According to the British specialized AutoCar website, BMW will no longer require a subscription to use Apple’s CarPlay in some vehicles. It was formerly $80/year.

Apple Pay is now available to customers of additional banks in Sweden, Austria, and Malta.

Dutch prosecutors have asked a judge for a three-year prison sentence for a local politician who doubled as a hacker and breached the personal iCloud accounts of more than 100 women, stealing and then leaking sexually explicit photos and videos online.
