News round-up: Apple celebrates U.S. Women’s World Cup championship (and more)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out. 

Apple is celebrating the United States Women’s World Cup championship with a homepage takeover. Check it out at https://www.apple.com. But watch quickly; the tribute plays, then disappears.

Walter Isaacson, author of the official Steve Jobs biography, told CNBC’s Squawk Box show that Apple should have made the kind of TV set that Jobs wanted, that the Apple Park is the company’s only great design in 15 years, and that Jobs felt Tim Cook wasn’t a “product guy.” Of course, I don’t think Jobs ever gave any details on what sort of TV show he envisioned. And Issacson ignores the Apple Watch and AirPods as great designs.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has some advice for most Facebook users: Delete your account.

Apple is testing a new way of signing into the iCloud website as part of its beta program for iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and macOS Catalina. According to a MacRumors tipster, users running a beta version of one of the above operating systems can now sign in with their Apple ID accounts using Face ID or Touch ID, depending on the device being used.

In a new ad on the Apple Singapore YouTube channel, Apple says Face ID is even easier and more secure to use than Touch ID.

According to Variety, Apple is among the companies attending Sun Valley 2019, Allen & Co.’s annual conference of business titans.

Apple has revived its Texas Hold’em game for iOS, a free download from the App Store that’s compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.The update to the original game comes in celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the App Store and has been redesigned to include new characters and enhanced graphics.
