News round-up: Apple cans plans for retail store in Federation Square (and more)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, a plan to build an Apple store at Federation Square in Melbourne, Australia, has been shelved, after heritage authorities refused an application to demolish part of the existing square. The tech giant won’t proceed with its plan, and the Andrews government will now review the operation of Federation Square.

Law 360 reports that Apple didn’t infringe two of Evolved Wireless LLC’s patents related to LTE technology, a Delaware jury found Thursday, dashing Evolved’s claims for about $30 million in royalties.

According to a report from The Oregonian, two Chinese men studying in Oregon on student visas are accused of shipping counterfeit iPhones to Oregon from Hong Kong, and then submitting the phones individually to Apple for replacements under warranty claims.
