° From Nikkei Asia: Nikkei teardowns of Apple’s latest iPhone 15 series reveal that production costs for the top-tier model rose by about 10% from those of the 2022 flagship, marking a record high for the second consecutive year. Although Apple took most of the hit this year, analysts speculate that it will pass on higher component prices to its customers in 2024.

° From 9to5Mac: CEO Tim Cook ays Apple remains committed to China, and cherishes the things that have been achieved during the company’s 30-year relationship with the country.

° From Global Times: Chinese mainland tax authorities have conducted tax inspections on key enterprises of Apple supplier Foxconn in Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces, among other places, in accordance with the law. 

° From AppleInsider: After months with nothing from Matter’s regulatory body, the home automation spec has been updated to 1.2, bringing compatibility with nine new accessory types including robot vacuum cleaners and appliances.

° From the WSJ: Tens of millions of teens actively want their parents to track their locations using tech like Apple’s Find My and third-party apps like Life360, says a new survey (a subscription is required to read the article).

° From MacVoices Live!: On the new episode, co-founders Adam Engst and Tonya Engst and current Publisher Joe Kissell celebrate the 20th anniversary of Take Control Books, revealing the origins of the company. The success of their ebook model, the challenges of setting up their first merchant account, and how the sale of the company to Joe came about are all part of the story.
