News items you should check out: March 30

Since I can’t cover everything, I’ll often direct your attention to articles of interest. To wit:

° From MacRumors: Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers will now be alerted if an iPhone has been reported as missing in the GSMA Device Registry when a customer brings in the device to be serviced.

° From The Financial Times (a subscription is required to read the entire article) “Russian Google” Yandex is sending data harvested from millions of iOS app users to Russia – whether or not you use the company’s apps. Laws there could compel the company to make the data available to the Russian government.

° From The Mac Observer: Two suppliers of Apple AirPods denied the rumors that Apple requested the reduction of AirPods production by 10 million units in 2022.

° From The Wall Street Journal (a subscription is required to read the entire article): The U.S. antitrust bill, the American Innovation and Choice Online Act, has been endorsed by the Department of Justice.

° From 9to5Mac: Apple released watchOS 8.5 for the Apple Watch last week, and while it came with a few new features, it also appears to have broken one feature that’s exclusive to the Apple Watch Series 7.

° From Variety: Mick Jagger talks about writing the theme for Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses.”

° From the U.S. Attorney’s Office: Seven people have been accused of using an Apple Watch to track their victims.

° From MacVoices Live!: The conversation about the new Universal Control feature in macOS continues on the new episode as David Ginsburg, Mark Fuccio, Jim Rea, and Jeff Gamet join host Chuck Joiner to discuss how they will use it, how it works, and why it may be a game-changer for at least one panel member.
