News items you should check out: June 22

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, occasionally we’ll direct your attention to articles from various other sources worth your time.

° Users in the U.S. can get a month of Paramount+ for free via the Apple TV app in an offer that ends on June 30, according to The MacObserver.

° In a note to clients — as noted by AppleInsider — the Wedbush investment firm believes there is still “massive” pent-up demand for new smartphones within Apple’s customer base.

° 9to5 Mac reports that Hulu has acknowledged and is investigating a playback issue affecting some content in its Apple TV application.

° Spiceworks Ziff Davis (SWZD) has announced that Apple Co-founder and tech giant, Steve Wozniak, will be the Keynote Speaker for SpiceWorld 2021 (September 27-29, 2021). It’s an annual, three-day conference packed with tech know-how, networking opportunities, and a first glance at emerging IT products and solutions.

° The global tablets market is expected to grow from $61.63 billion in 2020 to $69.9 billion in 2021 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.4%, according to Research and Markets. The growth is mainly due to the companies rearranging their operations and recovering from the COVID-19 impact, which had earlier led to restrictive containment measures involving social distancing, remote working, and the closure of commercial activities that resulted in operational challenges, adds the research group.

° On the new episode of MacVoices Live!, Jeff Carlson is back again to talk about how to look your best on your online meetings. This time, he focuses on using your DSLR as your web cam. You would think it is simple, but there are some tricks and maybe a little hardware that you need to make it work. In the first part of the conversation, Jeff talks about some of those, and the basic question about web meetings: how good do you need to look? (Part 1)
