Nebo 4 is a note-taking game changer

If you’re serious about note-taking on your iPad, we have exciting news for you: leading digital notebook app Nebo just unveiled a new update… and it’s a big one.

Nebo 4 introduces a host of powerful enhancements to the Note, Nebo’s expandable freeform canvas.

The Note was already a great space for brainstorming, freehand sketching and creating handwritten content. Previous updates added personalization options, while the app’s streamlined interface enables users to onboard and start taking notes in moments.

But the team at Nebo has always been driven by a vision for something greater: a single note-taking canvas that combines the free and intuitive feel of paper with the full flexibility of digital content. Nebo 4 makes that vision a reality.

Nebo 4: a giant leap forward

The new update brings developer MyScript’s excellent handwriting recognition engine to the Note for the first time. This massively augments the versatility of the creative canvas, making it a one-stop solution for almost any note-taking need.

Nebo’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) can now distinguish between handwriting and drawing in freeform notes – so you can mix all types of content without worrying about whether Nebo will understand your inputs. And the enhanced tech opens the door to a host of other features too.

Here’s an example of a noe created in Nebo 4

The most obvious game-changer is the addition of write-to-text conversion in a freeform setting. With Nebo 4 you can use the lasso tool to select handwriting in a Note and convert it to typed text. Similarly, holding your pen to the screen after drawing a shape will convert it to a perfect form – a brilliant time-saving touch.

Nebo recognizes shapes drawn using multiple strokes, and when you convert your handwriting to typed text, the app cleverly preserves text size and positioning to avoid altering the layout of your content. You can now type and dictate in a Note using a keyboard, with no restrictions on placement. And all typeset text – whether converted, typed or pasted from elsewhere – reflows neatly when resized.

One of the most exciting enhancements is the introduction of the swift, simple pen gestures from Nebo’s other note-taking page, the Document, into the Note. Made a mistake? Simply scratch it out to erase it. Want to emphasize a word or sentence? Underline it to make it bold. You can even customize key gestures to better suit your needs. The addition of these ‘interactive ink’ features feels magical, as Nebo accurately distinguishes between superficially similar actions – like coloring a shape and scratching out to erase it.

Lastly, Nebo 4 supports the copy-pasting of both text and images from other apps directly into a Note – making it easier than ever to mix different types of content on a single page. And if you need to rearrange content, don’t worry: Nebo’s developers have added smart alignment guides to help you achieve the ideal layout.

The result is a digital note-taking app that offers a uniquely powerful solution to serve all your note-taking needs. We can’t wait to see what comes next – but in the meantime, you can try Nebo 4 today.
