Look for a 24-inch ‘ARM iMac’ in quarter four and a 27-inch Intel iMac ASAP

In a note to clients — as noted by MacRumors — Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple will launch a 24-inch iMac with a new design in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Yesterday, Apple announced that, within two years, all its desktops and laptops would run on its own silicon. The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) thinks it will be the Mac with ARM chips. And the almost-always-reliable Kuo has said that an iMac and a 13-inch MacBook Pro would be Apple’s first desktop and laptop to run its own processors.

Kuo says Apple will launch the refresh of existing Intel ‌iMac‌ in the third quarter before launching the ‌ARM‌ ‌iMac‌ in the fourth quarter. The Intel iMac is almost certainly an update of the 27-incher. Expect it to sport “iPad Pro design language” with thinner, Pro Display XDR-like bezels.

BTW, I admit that I was wrong in predicting that we’d see no ARM-based Macs until next year. Apple gave me a (pleasant surprise) yesterday.

BTW, part II: in a statement to AppleInsider, Intel says that Apple remains a customer and that the company plans to continuing supporting them during the chip transition period.
