Jamf, which specializes in Apple device management solutions, announced that it’s has partnered with Jamf Certified Managed Service Provider (MSP) CareServant to power a modernized patient bedside experience at Emma Children’s Hospital, a part of the Amsterdam University Medical Center in the Netherlands. Emma Children’s has served sick children for more than 153 years.
“We’ve done a lot of research at Emma Children’s on the different types of patients, different types of children and what is important to them,” says Marijntje Wetzels, MSc, business director, Emma Children’s Hospital. “What you find is that younger children have different information needs, as well as a different way of grasping information. We then decided on personalizing the environment and having a plug-and-play solution.”
Emma Children’s initiative to enhance and modernize the overall hospital experience began in the teenagers ward, where each patient has access to an iPad that’s loaded with pre-populated content – all specifically selected for their age group and illness. Starting with a Home screen that mirrors the hospital’s branding, the patient can find an assortment of entertainment, information and communication apps that will help them feel more comfortable during their visit.
While CareServant’s front-end application gives a native Apple experience to patients during their hospital stay, the back-end of their solution integrates with Jamf Pro to ensure full security and privacy with minimal need for staff intervention, according to Wetzels. For instance, when a patient gets released, all apps and data are securely removed from the device. The next patient to occupy the room will see a fresh start-up screen, without a staff member ever having to touch the iPad.
“We really integrated our systems. Our system directly tells Jamf Pro which iPad needs to be configured to which person with which apps. It will then automatically move along with our system seamlessly,” says Jurjen Eisink, technical director, CareServant.
Due to the success it has seen in the teenagers ward from this implementation, Emma Children’s Hospital plans to expand this program to other areas of the hospital in 2019. For more information, read the case study.
