‘iPhone Ultra’ rumored to capture spatial photos, videos for the Apple Vision Pro

As noted by MacRumors, a future “iPhone Ultra” model could capture spatial photos and videos to be displayed in Apple’s Vision Pro headset, according to a rumor shared by a Weibo account.

The US$3,499 (and up) Vision Pro was previewed at June’s Apple Worldwide Developer Conference. However, it’s not due until early 2024 — and then, apparently, only in limited quantities.

The camera configuration of a future “‌iPhone Ultra‌” model released after the launch of the Vision Pro headset will reportedly “lead the market to rethink what kind of photos and videos a mobile phone should take,” according to the new rumor. MacRumors notes that “it seems highly likely that the information refers to the capture of spatial photos and videos, a unique feature of the Vision Pro that uses outward-facing cameras to record immersive 3D content.”

Speaking of an “iPhone Ultra,” As noted by leaker Majin Bu claims that Apple plans to release both an iPhone 15 Pro Max AND an iPhone Ultra. I’m skeptical.

Previously, both names were bandied about as the monikers for the highest-end model of the upcoming smartphone update. I think that’s the case and that the top model will be called the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

But here’s what Bu tweeted: Based on the information I was able to obtain, we could see changes in the lineup of the new iPhone 15. Apple could present a version called the iPhone 15 Pro Max with 6GB of RAM and storage up to 1TB and another version called the 15 Ultra with 8GM of RAM, memory up to 2TB and much better camera features than the normal Pro. The iPhone Ultra 15 price could under a further increase of about $100.

I think the iPhone 15 Pro Max will come with options for 1TB of Ram or 2TB of RAM. I don’t think there will be an 8GB model.

Apple has announced plans to hold a special event on Tuesday, September 12, at 10 am. (Pacific Time). The “Wanderlust” event — at which we’re almost certain to see new iPhones and Apple Watches (and perhaps new AirPods Pros with a USB-charging case) unveiled — will take place at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.

The event will be pre-ordered for broadcast. However, some members of the media will be present to get some hands-on time with the new gadgets.
