iPhone 16 rumored to adopt a stacked rear camera sensor deign across the line-up

Apple’s iPhone 16 will adopt a stacked rear camera sensor design across the lineup in 2024 after (mostly) similar adoption in this year’s standard iPhone 15 models, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Why “mostly”? He says the iPhone 15 Pro won’t get the feature. A stacked design CIS (CMOS Image Sensor) allows cameras to capture more light.

As for other rumors about the iPhone 16, as noted by MacRumors, info from the Weibo account “Digital Chat Station” claims that the iPhone Pro Max could be the first to feature a super telephoto periscope camera for dramatically increased optical zoom.

The label of “super” or “ultra” telephoto is usually afforded to cameras with a focal length over 300mm, drastically magnifying and pulling in distant subjects, says MacRumors. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro models’ telephoto camera has a focal length of equivalent to 77mm, so a focal length in excess of 300mm on the ‌iPhone 16‌ Pro Max would be a very large increase.

Display industry analyst Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants thinks 2024’s iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will sport “around” 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes (give or take a decimal point or two).

If true, the iPhones would have the biggest displays ever. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are equipped with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively, and these sizes are not expected to change with the iPhone 15 Pro models launching later this year.

Regarding the iPhone 16, rumors say that it will pack under-display Face ID technology and haptic buttons.
