iPhone 15 rumors are so old hat; let’s look ahead to the iPhone 17

Based on conversations with colleagues, customers, partners and other industry experts, here are the six technology predictions for the coming year from Kandji.

According to a tweet by display analyst Ross Young the iPhone 17 Pro will be the first ‌Apple smartphone to feature under-panel Face ID technology, according to display analyst Ross Young. Of course, that model of the smartphone won’t arrive until 2025.

This isn’t the first time under-display Face ID tech has been rumored for Apple devices. An April 20 2022 report by The Elec claimed that Samsung Display is developing a new under-panel camera technology that Apple plans to use to hide Face ID under the display on this year’s “iPhone 15 Pro” models.

Also, in two years Apple will expand ProMotion support to the standard models iPhones. Currently, it’s a Pro-only exclusive.

ProMotion is Apple’s name for the adaptive, high refresh rate, 120Hz display first available on the iPad Pro. While a standard refresh rate will update a display 60 times a second (60Hz), the ProMotion’s adaptive 120Hz screen works at twice this speed. This results in smoother scrolling, improved responsiveness and better gaming performance.
