iMac Pro may have server-grade processors, Touch ID support

Earlier this month at the Worldwide Developer Conference, Apple unveiled the upcoming iMac Pro, a new workstation-class product line designed for pro users with demanding workflows. Now we (possibly) have a few more details.

The all-new iMac Pro, with its 27-inch Retina 5K display, next generation Intel Xeon processors up to 18 cores, up to 22 Teraflops of graphics computation, up to 16GB of VRAM, up to 128GB of memory, built-in Ethernet, and support for one billion colors, is the most powerful Mac ever made, says John Ternus, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering. It comes in a new space gray enclosure.

Pike’s Universium (https://pikeralpha.wordpress.com/2017/06/22/imac-pro-comes-with-security-enclave-processor/) says the iMac Pro appears to be coming with a Security Enclave Processor, akin to that of the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. The Secure Enclave adds an additional level of security to the Mac and hints that Touch ID could be supported.

What’s more, Pike’s Universium says the iMac Pro will sport one of the Intel “Purley Xeons.” They’re next-generation server-grade Skylake-EX and Skylake-EP processors.

The iMac Pro will arrive in December with prices starting at $4,999.
