How to use Macro mode on the iPhone 13 Pro, Pro Max

With the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, Apple introduced Macro mode for incredible close-ups. Macro stills are just the beginning. You can also shoot macro videos — including slow motion and time-lapse.

To launch Macro mode.

° Launch the Camera app.

° Make sure Photo mode is highlighted in the camera mode menu. Or go to Video mode if you’re shooting video.

° Line-up the subject you want to photography really close in the viewfinder.

° Allow the iPhone camera to switch to the wide-angle lens.

° Move in closer and use the zoom if necessary.

° Once the camera is focused on the subject, tap the shutter to take the shot or begin capturing video. If you’re shooting video, tap the shutter button again to finish.

However, there’s an issue (for some folks) as the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max switch to macro mode automatically. Apple says a fix is coming. For now, to not use Macro mode and have the smartphone use its primary or telephoto camera when you want to get close is to cover the ultra-wide-angle camera with your finger.

(This how-to is based on my experiences and info on Apple’s support pages.)
