Happy birthday, Macintosh! You’re still my favorite Apple device

Happy birthday, Macintosh!  It was 36 years ago today that Steve Jobs unveiled the first Mac: the 128K.

It came in a beige box with a nine-inch (black and white) CRT monitor and, of course, a keyboard and mouse. Specs included an 8MHz Motorola 6800 processor, 128KB of RAM, and a 3.5-inch floppy drive. A handle built into the top of the case made it easier for the computer to be lifted and carried. The Mac 128K had an initial selling price of $2,495 (equivalent to $6,140 in today’s prices).

It was the first commercially successful personal computer to sport a mouse and a graphical user interface. Apple sold 70,000 units within the first few months on the market.

I’ve owned dozens of Macs over the years. My current set-up is a 16-inch MacBook Pro connected to an LG UltraFine 5K display.

I use my iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods every day and thoroughly enjoy them. And I really, really like my iPhone.

But I LOVE my Mac. It’s still the one Apple product that I find indispensable in my everyday work/personal life.

What’s your favorite Mac of all time?
