Gurman: New iPad Pros,  iPad Airs, accessories likely to launch the first week of May

Apple will likely launch new iPad Pros, iPad Airs, and accessories during the first week of May, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says in his latest “Power On” newsletter.

“For those looking for more specific timing, I’m told the launch will probably happen the week of May 6,” he says. “Another data point to that end: Apple retail stores are preparing to receive new product marketing materials later that week.”

One rumor says that Apple may offer a matte screen for the first time. Unlike a regular glossy display, a matte display comes with an anti-glare coating that helps minimize reflections on your screen. Since smooth surfaces such as glass or plastic reflect light evenly, they may have a harsh glare and interrupt your content.

The next iPad Pro will almost certainly sport an OLED display. It’s likely to be a hybrid OLED display made with a combination of flexible and rigid materials. This could mean the updated iPad Pros would be even thinner and lighter design than current models.

The iPad Airs are expected to sport an M2 chip and a landscape-oriented front camera. And Apple may offer a 12.9-inch Air for the first time.

Gurman says Apple will also introduce a new Apple Pencil and new Magic Keyboards. The latter will purportedly have a sturdier frame made from aluminum, which will allow the ‌iPad‌ to more closely resemble a laptop.

What new features might an Apple Pencil 3 include? Previous rumors have suggested the following:

° New sensors for more haptic feedback features, including the ability to response to squeezes;

° The tip of the Apple Pencil could have new tech that supports additional features or more accurate drawing accuracy.

° Support for a rolling gesture that would allow you to zoom in on the iPad.

° A pivotal end that allows for rolling and sliding gestures.
