Give your MacBook Pro or MacBook a BaseLift

If you don’t mind adding a smidge of size to your new MacBook Pro or a 12-inch MacBook, Twelve South’s BaseLift makes typing a little more comfortable. If you can find one. Evidently, it’s no longer being manufactured, but you should be able to find one at Amazon for about half of the original $39.99 price.

The BaseLift is a thin, microfiber-layered folding pad/ stand that attaches to the bottom of your Mac laptop and folds into a wedge. Attaching it is easy, and it elevates your screen and brings your keyboard to a typing angle that’s a bit more comfortable than the angle when the laptop sits flat. If you decide to remove the BaseLift, it comes off easily and doesn’t leave any sticky residue behind.

When you’re not using it as a typing wedge, it folds into a soft pad that can protect your lap and legs from the heat or cold of a Mac laptop (though I personally have never found that to be a problem). Finally, it protects the bottom of your laptop from scratches and nicks. When you decide to remove BaseLift, you’ll find a like-new surface with no residue left behind.

The BaseLift is compatible with all MacBooks ranging from the 11-inch Air to the 15-inch MacBook Pro. It sports a two-piece design: the primary BaseLift Pad (all you need for the MacBook or 11-inch Air) and al secondary Fit Strip for 13 and 15-inch models.

Though it’s a bit pricey, the BaseLift does make typing on a Mac laptop more pleasant. I’ve used it with my 12-inch MacBook at the optometrist office, at Panera Bread, and at Starbucks. It’s been useful enough that I’ve no plans to remove it.
