Former Apple exec to led GM vehicle, enterprise software technologies

General Motors has named former Apple executive Mike Abbott to lead a division that will bring together three software functions within the company, reports Reuters

At Apple, Abbott was the top executive in charge of cloud initiatives, including iCloud and infrastructure for services like iMessage and FaceTime. It was reported in March that he planned to leave the tech giant.

Abbott, whose appointment is effective from May 22, will spearhead development of vehicle and enterprise software technologies, the article adds. Before Apple, he was a general partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a venture capital firm. Abbott also previously worked as vice president of engineering at Twitter, team lead for Azure at Microsoft and senior vice president of apps and services at Palm.

I’n not sure Abbott’s move to GM has anything to do with the, but GM plans to ditch Apple’s CarPlay (and Android Auto) for an infotainment system co-developed with Google.
