The China Consumer Association wants Apple to compensate folks over a recent data security issue that affected a number of consumers in China who said they had suffered financial losses after having their Apple IDs stolen. The consumer group aid in a statement on its website that Apple should compensate consumers in full, according to Reuters.
Earlier this month, Apple apologized over the hacking of some Chinese accounts in phishing scams, almost a week after it emerged that stolen Apple IDs had been used to swipe customer funds. The tech giant said it found “a small number of our users’ accounts” had been accessed through phishing scams” and added that “we are deeply apologetic about the inconvenience caused to our customers by these phishing scams.”
However, the tech giant also pointed out that that two-factor authentication, which the company recommends, would have prevented these attacks from taking place. The apology came after some customers of Alibaba-owned Alipay and Tencent-owned WeChat Pay had been the subject of fraudulent App Store purchases.
