The new iMac looks fantastic — and I want a maxed-out blue model. Or do I?
After all, while Apple debuted a 24-inch all-in-one, the rumored 27-inch (or bigger) iMac didn’t appear. This probably means it will arrive in late summer or early fall along with updated MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs.
The 24-inch iMac has a 4.5K Retina display that offers 4480-by-2520 resolution at 218 pixels per inch with support for one billion colors. That compares to 5120 x 2880 resolution with support for one billion colors on the current Intel-based 27-inch iMac. Is that enough to make me wait? Hmmmm.
Also, I was a bit surprised to see the new iMac sporting the M1 processor, as I expected it to sport an upgraded/tweaked version for the first Apple Silicon desktop Mac. On the other hand, my M1 MacBook Pro positively screens with the M1, so that’s probably not a deciding factor for me.
I’m also disappointed that Apple doesn’t make 16GB of RAM the standard on all Macs rather than 8GB. Sure, you can upgrade, but still…
Aw heck, let’s face it: I’ll be ordering a new iMac.
Will you?
