BOE Technology Group will be one of the main suppliers of OLED panels for iPhone 13 models, according to a new report today from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News — as noted by MacRumors.
The display manufacturer will purportedly work with touch panel manufacturer General Interface Solution (GIS) to develop OLED panels. All of Apple’s upcoming iPhone revamps are expected to sport OLED display with the top two models using LTPO OLED screens.
Speaking of the next gen smartphone, the iPhone 13 lineup (which some rumors say will be dubbed the “iPhone 12S, though I don’t agree) will include an always-on ProMotion display with a 120Hz refresh rate, improved camera capabilities for astrophotography, stronger MagSafe magnets, and a finer matte finish on the back, according to leaker Max Weinbach (via YouTube channel EverythingApplePro).
Always On Display (AOD) is a smartphone feature that shows limited information while the phone is asleep. According to Apple, ProMotion “delivers refresh rates of up to 120Hz for fluid scrolling, greater responsiveness and smoother motion content” and “improves display quality and reduces power consumption by automatically adjusting the display refresh rate to match the movement of the content.
BOE is a Chinese electronic components producer founded in April 1993. It’s one of the world’s largest manufacturers of LCD, OLEDs and flexible displays.
