Bargain-priced Inateck MP1200 Felt Sleeve protects your 12-inch MacBook, holds a surprising amount of stuff

Since Apple World Today launched in February, I’ve had the opportunity to check out some of the wide range of accessories from Inateck. This manufacturer, based in Germany, is making inroads into the accessory world for two reasons: first, their products are pretty solid, and second, the products are all very reasonably priced. Today I’m looking at Inateck’s MP1200 Felt Sleeve for the 12-inch MacBook (US$36.99 MSRP, but just $12.99 from Amazon — affiliate link).

Design

The MP1200 Felt Sleeve is rather plain looking. It’s made of a neutral grey felt material with flannel inside, which will keep the MacBook scratch-free whether you’re carrying it inside a backpack or briefcase, or just using the sleeve alone.

A Velcro closure keeps the top flap closed, and there are two slots inside the sleeve — one for the MacBook and the other for magazines or even an iPad. On the back of the sleeve are two slot pockets that will work for holding your iPhone, earbuds, or other little accessories.

One nice surprise: Inateck throws in a small pouch with an elastic closure that’s perfect for wrapping up your MacBook’s power adapter and cable.

Function

The MP1200 is really quite perfect for protection of the 12-inch MacBook with Retina display. I was able to load up the sleeve with my MacBook, an iPad, and my iPhone 6 Plus comfortably. The small pouch? I definitely put my charging cable into it. Now I can toss all of my tech stuff into my backpack without worrying that it’s going to get scratched by something I left in it.

While it’s not water resistant like the Waterfield Designs Dash Sleeve ($59) I reviewed last month, it does fully enclose your MacBook and whatever else is inside it. The felt material is sustainable and mold-proof; the latter might be helpful in damp climates.

Conclusion

Inateck’s MP1200 Felt Sleeve for 12-inch MacBook combines a rather staid design with excellent construction, slots for extra tech goodies, and even an extra pouch for the power adapter. Considering it’s just $12.99 at Amazon, the sleeve is a bargain as well. It’s listed as the #1 New Release on Amazon for Laptop Sleeves, has a 4.6 star rating from over 1,000 customers (in combination with other sizes of the sleeve), and while it may not protect your MacBook from big drops, it will certainly keep it scratch-free.

Apple World Today Rating (out of 5 stars): ★★★★★
