RESCUECOM says Dell has seen improvement this year — from being one of the worst performers in prior years, while HP’s reliability score continues to drop. Amazon is missing due to a drop in popularity of its tablets, while Microsoft ranks in the median due to its production of the Surface tablet.
While IBM/Lenovo had been gaining ground on Apple and Samsung, its score did not increase as much as either of theirs, keeping it in third place. The middle rankings belong to Microsoft and Asus, a familiar spot for Asus and Microsoft’s first inclusion in the report.
RESCUECOM calculates reliability scores by contrasting a manufacturer’s market share of computers and tablets to the number of tech support calls for those devices. IBM/Lenovo’s grade is a “B+,” Microsoft’s is a “B,” Asus is a “C+,” Dell’s a “C,” Toshiba’s a “C-,” Acer’s a “D,” and HP’s an “F.”
