Apple will reportedly replace the gold finish option for the iPhone 15 with ‘titan grey’

When Apple unveils the iPhone 15 Pro line in September, it will no longer offer a gold finish option, according to 9to5Mac.

With their titanium builds, the new smartphone will come in space black, silver, and “titan grey,” the article adds. 9to5Mac adds that Apple will promote a new dark blue color for the titanium iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. 

This will be the special color of the year, replacing deep purple, and not the crimson color previously reported. As for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, 9to5Mac expects Apple to offer five color options for the non-Pro line: black, green, blue, yellow, and pink.

Apple will unveil its iPhone 15 line-up on Tuesday, Sept. 12, via a pre-recorded event, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman predicts. Pre-orders will likely start on Friday, Sept. 15, with the first orders arriving on Friday, Sept. 22. 

Here are some of the rumors about the iPhone 15 line-up:

° The iPhone 15 Pro and ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max will be at least US$100 more expensive than their predecessors.

° Apple’s upcoming A17 chip that is set to be used in the iPhone 15 Pro and ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max models includes a 6-core CPU and a 6-core GPU.

° The iPhone 15 and ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus could come with color-matched braided USB-C to USB-C cables

° iPhone 15 Pro models will be available with a 2TB maximum storage option.

° The standard iPhone 15 models will trade in the notch for the Dynamic Island, while the Pro and Pro Max displays will be made with a new technology: low-injection pressure over-molding, or “LIPO” as it’s dubbed inside Apple. 

° The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will look similar to the current models but add major camera improvements and the A16 chip from the iPhone 14 Pro line. They’ll also swap out the current Lightning connector for USB-C.

° The pro models will get a new design, replacing the shiny and fingerprint-prone stainless-steel edges with something stronger, lighter and more premium: titanium. Apple has long sought to bring titanium to the iPhone and using the metal with recent watches was a test for bringing that material to its highest-volume device. 

° The design of the Pro models retains the frosted glass back of the prior few phones, but the edges connecting the side and front are now less sharp than before.

° The inside of the iPhone 15 Pro is redesigned to match the revamped aluminum chassis from the regular iPhone 14. That overhaul makes the phone easier to repair.

° The iPhone 15 is moving to USB-C. That will enable faster data transfer speeds for those who still sync with a cable, but some consumers will see the change as a costly headache.

° There will be major rear camera upgrades, including updated lenses and the ability to get a much wider range of optical zoom on the largest model.
