Apple testing ways to make it easier for iPhone users to replace the smartphone battery

Apple is testing ways to make it easier for users to remove the glue holding down the battery in an iPhone, according to The Information. Such a feature could arrive with the iPhone 16, the article adds.

If/when the features arrives, it will due to pressure on Apple from regulators in Europe and other regions. Last year the European Union passed a law requiring smartphone makers to ensure that smartphone batteries can be replaced by users no later than 2025. 

From The Information: The new technology—known as electrically induced adhesive debonding—involves encasing the battery in metal, rather than foil as it is currently. That would allow people to dislodge the battery from the chassis by administering a small jolt of electricity to the battery, the people said.
