Apple supposedly signs supplier for periscope camera system in upcoming iPhones

According to The Elec, Apple may have reached a deal with a new supplier of telephoto lens components for a periscope camera system in future iPhones.

The article notes that Jahwa Electronics, a company that already provides parts for Samsung’s Galaxy S22 phones, is thought to have lined up business that will see it do the same for Apple. The Elec says the company will be spending about US$155 million to set up a new production line.

Periscope lenses allow for greater optical zoom by bouncing light inside the phone off a mirror before passing it through another smaller lens which can be moved closer and further away from the sensor, amplifying the light even more.
