Apple seeks new trademark for its ‘rainbow’ logo

Apple is seeking a new U.S. trademark for its iconic multicolor logo, the “rainbow” logo, reports AppleInsider.

The tech giant first applied for the mark in Jamaica last June. Apple’s retro logo entered the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Trademark Reporting and Monitoring System (TRAM) in December and was subsequently assigned to an examiner last week, adds AppleInsider

In August 1999 Apple replaced the striped, multicolored logo it used since 1977 with a new single-color version. Some folks still miss the “original” company logo, though actually it wasn’t the original logo at all.

That one portrayed Sir Isaac Newton sitting beneath a tree with a solitary apple dangling over his head. Apple’s third co-founder, Ron Wayne — who sold his stake in the company for just $800 — designed the original logo.) Sir Issac and the dangling apple were replaced by the rainbow logo less than a year later.
