Apple scoops up rights to upcoming movie, ‘CODA,’ for Apple TV+

Apple has paid over US$25 million for the rights to upcoming movie “CODA” (an acronym for “Child of Deaf Adults), setting a new Sundance Film Festival acquisition record, according to Deadline.

Here’s how the movie is described: Writer-director Siân Heder’s coming-of-age drama is about a high school senior who is the only hearing person in her deaf family and is torn between holding together that unit or seeking her own dreams.

… the film centers on Ruby (Emilia Jones), the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family’s fishing business is threatened, she finds herself torn between pursuing her love of music and her fear of abandoning her parents. The pic is based on the award-winning French hit “La famille belier.”

Apple TV+ is available on the Apple TV app in over 100 countries and regions, on over 1 billion screens, including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch, Mac, select Samsung, LG, Sony, and VIZIO smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices, PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and at tv.apple.com, for US$4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial.
