Apple reportedly working on a ‘trove’ of software, services for its mixed-reality headset

Apple MAY introduce its augmented reality/virtual reality headset at June’s Worldwide Developer Conference. And the company is working on dedicated sports, gaming, wellness, and collaboration apps for the device, reports Bloomberg.

The article by Mark Gurman says Apple wants to “build a trove of software and services for its upcoming mixed-reality headset, seeking to win over potentially wary customers with apps that use the device’s novel 3D interface.”

The article says that Apple plans to optimize such apps as FaceTime, Fitness+, Safari, Calendar, Contacts, Home, Files, Messages, Notes, Photos, Music, and more for the device (which is rumored to be called the “Reality Pro”).

Apple will host its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in an online format from June 5-9 with an opportunity for developers and students to celebrate in person at a special experience at Apple Park on opening day. The event has been online only since 2021. When it comes to the RealityPro, the rumors are abundant. Such a device will arrive this year. Or 2024. Or 2025, Or 2026. It will be a head-mounted display. Or may have a design like “normal” glasses. Or it may be eventually be available in both. The Reality Pro may or may not have to be tethered to an iPhone to work. Other rumors say that it could have a custom-build Apple chip and a dedicated operating system dubbed “rOS” for “reality operating system.” Or perhaps “xrOS” for extended reality operating system.pastedGraphic.png
