Apple reportedly pauses work on 2024 operating system upgrades to fix glitches in the current versions

Apple has hit pause on development of next year’s software updates for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV set-top box so that it “could root out glitches in the code,” according to Bloomberg.

The delay, announced internally to employees last week, was meant to help maintain quality control after a proliferation of bugs in early versions, the article adds — quoting unnamed “people with knowledge of the decision.” Rather than adding new features, company engineers were tasked with fixing the flaws and improving the performance of the software, according to Bloomberg.

However, the pause is only temporary. The article says Apple is lifting the pause this week so that work on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, tvOS 18, and watchOS 11 can continue.
