Apple plans to expand its ‘Made in India’ initiative

Apple plans to invest up to $1 billion in India as the tech giant plans to begin exporting “Made in India” iPhones globally, reports The Times of India.

This comes at a time when the U.S. and China are engaged in a trade war. Companies such as Apple that have been heavily dependent on China for manufacturing are looking elsewhere.

Foxconn, Apple’s Taiwan-based manufacturing partner, will be the investment partner for the tech giant’s new push, according to The Times of India. Its factory in Chennai will be used to make Apple products. Chennai, on the Bay of Bengal in eastern India, is the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu.
