Apple has appointed Ashish Chowdhary, chief customer operations officer at Nokia Networks, as head of its operations in India, reports IANS, quoting unnamed “reliable industry sources.”
Originally from Delhi, he has held various leadership positions at Nokia, including head of Asia Middle East & Africa and head of the Global Services Business Unit. Chowdhary’s appointment comes at a time when Apple is seeking tax relief and other incentives from India’s government to begin assembling more iPhones in the country, as well as possibly establishing a manufacturing unit there. His role will also make him site leader working with all functional leaders and teams across India.
Apple India is currently headed by Michel Coulomb who took over from Sanjay Kaul in December 2017. Prior to his new role, Coulomb was the managing director for South Asia operations at Apple.
