Another day, another lawsuit. As reported by AppleInsider, a new lawsuit accuses Apple of violating the U.S. Copyright Act for streaming copyrighted music through Apple Music without first obtaining a license from the copyright owner.
The lawsuit — filed by Pro Music Rights, a for-profit performing rights organization — focuses on unpaid royalties and ongoing infringement related to 15 registered copyrights covering a clutch of songs. PMR claims it’s attempted to contact Apple four times, but says the tech giant failed to enter into a license agreement.
PRM wants Apple to admit its misdeeds. It also seeks all revenue associated with playback of the claimed infringed works, statutory damages of $150,000 per each act of infringement and court fees.
