Code discovered on Apple’s backend by MacRumors confirms Apple is indeed working on a long-rumored home accessory in addition to the HomePod and Apple TV.
The article hints that the device is likely a HomePod with a display. MacRumors says the code suggests such a device will pack an A18 processor and run a version of tvOS.
A HomePod with a display has been rumored for some time. For example, in a December 27, 2023, article at MacRumors reported that Apple is working on a HomePod model that features a curved LCD display, according to the Apple leaker and prototype collector known as “Kosutami.” The smart speaker would apparently features the same design as the current HomePod but with a curved, convex LCD screen at the top to display content, Kosutami tweeted.
And in February Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that Apple had begun work on such a device. However, “if Apple finally moves forward with the product, a launch wouldn’t come until 2025 at the earliest,” he added.
