Apple may depend on Chinese suppliers for future versions of the Vision Pro (as well as a non-Pro version)

Apple is currently testing advanced displays made by two Chinese suppliers for possible inclusion in future models of its Vision Pro mixed-reality headsets, according to The Information.

The US$3,499 (and higher) “Spatial Computer” was announced at June’s Worldwide Developer Conference. However, it won’t be available  until early 2024 — and, then, apparently only in limited quantities.

Currently, Apple depends on Sony as its sole supplier for the pair of displays used for Vision Pro. However, Sony is rumored to be able to provide fewer than one million micro-OLED displays annually, and each Vision Pro requires two.

Citing two unnamed folks “with direct knowledge of the matter,” The Information says Apple is “testing advanced displays” by China-based BOE and SeeYa for possible inclusion in future model of the spatial computer. That includes a potential, non-Pro, less expensive version of the spatial computing system.
