Apple Korea says it will donate $84 million to support small businesses

Reuters reports that the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) says that Apple’s South Korean unit has proposed measures to address antitrust concerns and offered to provide 100 billion won (about US$84.02 million) worth of support programs for small businesses, consumers and others.

The country’s competition watchdog has been investigating the tech giant for anti-competitive behavior. Now Apple has agreed to fix “unfair” terms with mobile carriers as part of its proposal, the KFTC said.

Apple Korea has been criticized by local mobile carriers for passing the costs for smartphone sales —  including advertising costs, launch events and repair costs — to them. Domestic media reports have reported that the FTC was reviewing details of the U.S. firm’s contracts with South Korean mobile telecoms carriers.
