Apple granted a design patent for a new Mac monitor

Apple has been granted a design patent (D808,965) for what looks like a new computer monitor. One of the complaints about previous Cinema and Thunderbolt displays, as well as iMacs, is that, while they can tilt, their height can’t be adjusted.

The design patent seems to show a display that addresses those issues. Apple is working on a new, modular Mac Pro and a standalone display. This patent could reflect an upcoming screen. It’s unclear if such a monitor would also be able to easily swivel from side to side, a feature some users have wanted in Apple displays and iMacs.

Of course, Apple files for — and is granted — lots of patents by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Many are for inventions that never see the light of day. However, you never can tell which ones will materialize in a real product.
