‘Apple Glasses’ coming in the second quarter of 2022

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says in a note to clients — as reported by AppleInsider — that “Apple Glasses” are still coming. He says the augmented reality headset will arrive in the second quarter of 2022.

“We predict that Apple will launch AR HMD devices in 2Q22,” Kuo writes. “The device will provide a video see-through AR experience, so the lens is also needed, and Genius is also a key supplier.”

Apple granted a new patent for a head-mounted display

Speaking of the Apple Glasses, Apple has been granted a patent (number 11,029,521) for a “head-mounted display [HMD] with an adjustable opacity system.” The goal is to make Apple’s HDM offer a superior viewing experience.

A HMD display that is displaying augmented reality content may overlay computer-generated images on real-world objects. However, Apple says that, if care isn’t taken, the computer-generated images may be difficult to see against the real-world objects, real-world objects may distract a viewer, or other issues may arise with displayed content. The tech giant wants to avoid this with its Apple Glasses.

What/when are Apple Glasses?

When it comes to Apple Glasses, such a device will arrive this year or 2022, depending on which rumor you believe. The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) thinks Apple will at least preview it before the end of the year.

It will be a head-mounted display. Or may have a design like “normal” glasses. Or it may be eventually be available in both. The Apple Glasses may or may not have to be tethered to an iPhone to work. Other rumors say that Apple Glasses could have a custom-build Apple chip and a dedicated operating system dubbed “rOS” for “reality operating system.”
