Apple Daily Report: Qualcomm: hey, judge, Apple can’t do that (and more news)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out.

Qualcomm has told a California federal judge that Apple can’t argue it doesn’t owe royalties for a particular patent because its window to do so has closed. The chip supplier says that the patent has been newly injected into the companies’ massive licensing dispute belies the fact Apple has known about the patent for months.

The European Commission has withdrawn a European Court of Justice action against Ireland over delays in recovering the €13.1 billion owned by Apple in disputed taxes. The Commission said it was dropping the action after confirmation by Ireland that the money had been paid.

Despite the iPhone Xr slated for launch in the latter half of October, Taiwan-based suppliers engaged in the Apple supply chain remain cautious about orders for the new iPhone series for the rest of 2018, reports DigiTimes, attributing unnamed “industry sources.”

In a new report — as noted by 9to5Mac — the CIRP research group says its data shows that early iPhone Xs sales were strong, and were split evenly between the Xs and Xs Max.

According to Deadline Hollywood (https://deadline.com/2018/10/christian-camargo-hera-hilmar-apple-series-see-steven-knight-francis-lawrence-1202485206/), Christian Camargo (Penny Dreadful) and Hera Hilmar (DaVinci’s Demons) have been cast as series regulars opposite Jason Momoa in Apple’s original drama series See, from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, director Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2) and the scripted drama venture of Peter Chernin’s Chernin Entertain.
