Apple Daily Report: new MacBook Pro owners should back up their data VERY frequently

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out.

New MacBook Pro owners should back up their data frequently. Very frequently. A new report suggests if the logic boards in the 2018 MacBook Pro laptops fail, data kept on local storage may be irrecoverable. This news comes from MacRumors, which reports that the lack of a data recovery connector on the logic board — discovered by iFixit — means that Apple’s latest laptops are incompatible with its internal Customer Data Migration Tool, a black box that sends your data to a new system.Rumors hint that Apple will bundle a faster 18W power adapter with its next-generation iPhones, expected to be unveiled this September, but third-party fast charger compatibility may be limited.

Apple’s TV show, Planet of the Apps, drew mixed reviews when it first became available for streaming last summer. Now, one of the show’s stars, Gary Vaynerchuk, is slamming the way Apple marketed the series.

Apple currently relies exclusively on Samsung for its supply of OLED displays for the iPhone X. However, a new report from The Wall Street Journal says China is pushing to become a supplier of OLED displays to Apple as part of its efforts to increase advanced manufacturing.

Dozens of Apple customers have had hundreds of dollars each drained from their bank accounts, after being billed for purchases they didn’t make on their iTunes accounts.

Qualcomm has launched what it claims are the world’s first fully-integrated 5G millimeter wave and sub-6 GHz RF modules for smartphones and other devices, with the new 5G mmWave antenna combining a 5G millimeter wave radio, power amplifier for signal boosting, and antenna array, all in a package that’s small enough to fit on a fingertip.
