Apple Daily Report for May 14, 2018

Steve is out of pocket this week, so the AWT News Update is on a one-day hiatus. In its place, I’ll offer a text-only (no podcast) summary of breaking stories with a tip o’ my hat to my former website, Apple Daily Report.

Apple CEO Tim Cook returned to his Alma Mater Duke for the commencement speech for the 2018 graduates, and left to a standing ovation. He addressed many topics, ranging from climate change, Apple’s use of renewable energy, and issued a clarion call to graduates to leave the world better than they found it.

While services will continue to grow into a massive entity on its own, longtime analyst Gene Munster says in a note to clients that the iPhone will remain a “stable business for the next few years.”

Here we go again. Apple and Samsung are facing each other in a California court for a third trial involving the same set of five patents.

Ahead of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Apple is highlighting the work it’s been doing in recent years to benefit people like Pruitt by building more capabilities into its devices.

Apple has released the fifth developer betas of macOS High Sierra 10.13.5, iOS 11.4, tvOS 11.4, and watchOS 4.3.1. Registered developers can download them via Apple’s developer portal. Or they can be downloaded over-the-air once the proper configuration profile has been installed from the Developer Center.
