Apple Daily Report: Apple sued (again) over an ‘exploding’ iPhone (and more news)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out.

A New York City resident has sued Apple in state court, alleging that he was “caused to suffer and sustain severe bodily injuries” when his iPhone 6s exploded, reports Law360. There have been other incidents in which the tech giant has been sued for the same reason.

The Financial Times says Finisar, a supplier for Apple’s Face ID system, is to be acquired by II-VI, an optical systems company. As noted by 9to5Mac, last year Apple made a $390 million deal with Finisar to safeguard its supply of key components for the Face ID system now used in the iPhone XS, iPhone XR and 2018 iPad Pro models.

Wemo has announced a software update that enables Apple HomeKit compatibility with the Wemo WiFi Smart Dimmer, which embeds smart lighting technology with dimming functionality to be controlled using the Home app or Wemo app on an iPhone and iPad. Wemo users can add Wemo Dimmer to the Apple Home app and ask Siri to control lighting throughout the home with HomePod or even automatically based on rules and intelligence.

Apple has posted an article on its Newsroom site about Scott Leason, a blind surfer, who “catches a second wave with a surfboard and iPhone.”

Apple plans to donate to fire relief efforts in Northern and Southern California, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced on Twitter this morning.
